Splatt
For safety, complete this activity with another person standing close by.
This activity stimulates the MORO reflex with the intent of beginning the integration process. The MORO reflex is a primitive reflex that is often present in individuals with an autonomic nervous system that is easily triggered into the fear, flight, fright state of being. In the newborn infant this reflex is a protective response that over the first year and a half of their life transitions into a more mature response to sensory information from the environment.
Instructions
-
Begin in standing by the edge of the pool (can be completed while standing on the steps or safely on the edge) with arms crossed snuggly over your shoulders and chin tucked down toward your chest.
-
Eyes will be closed during the activity.
-
You will now fall backwards into the pool while keeping your arms crossed and eyes closed.
-
Did your arms stay crossed? Eyes closed? Did you keep your body straight like a stick? or did you sit down into the water?
-
Try the activity 3 times.
